Liability is a photography piece that involves a 29" x 27. 13" photo. The image displays numerous 'caution wet floor signs' that I photographed and edited into the location of a pool. Text is used to obviously label the subject of the photo and further develop the narrative created by the wet floor signs. Liability aims to have an ominous and eerie impact on the viewer, leaving them to think about the state of the world. I have worked through finding a balance of whether to overwhelm the viewer with an unusually significant amount of wet floor signs or leave it to the few to speak for themselves. Similar to past works, I have taken an ordinary object and highlighted it to allow for a deeper exploration of the meaning the object can portray. The wet floor sign is used as legal protection and is used to reduce the possibility of a lawsuit from slipping. The signs are there to protect an organization from liability due to injury, thereby advising the public to proceed with caution. The wet floor sign has become a prominent vessel for discussion.

Ill-Advised II focuses on a study of the chair. It allows the viewer to focus on something as common as a chair and see it in an artistic light. The work challenges the viewer's recognition of seeing what is there with the removal of the back legs and support of the chair imagery. This gives the viewer a moment to question the reality of what is real. The chair is a found object that was discarded and given a new life through this series.
Ill-Advised II is presented in the form of a black-and-white grid that is a series in a non-restrictive typology. The grid allows the viewer to see the photos of the chair in a comparative nature and connect the rigidity of the chair to the linear aspect of the grid layout. The piece is displayed on a dibond mount that accentuates the images into the gallery space. Lily’s work within her photography practice has been based around the narrative an everyday object can present on a deeper level. Lily’s artist style focuses on creating a piece and then taking elements of the work away and then reconstructing it into a redeveloped, newly formed piece.
The chair increases its interest as its main function in society is taken away from it and it no longer serves its original purpose. The chair is a harsh, industrial, and linear object found in uncommon locations for a chair of such style. A chair is commonly known as a piece of furniture that is to be sat on and provide comfort. However, this chair provides the opposite experience that draws you into it and then denies people from sitting. The piece is a study of the chair's traits and characteristics.
